This kitty was turned in at the county shelter, his owners said he was mean. We haven't seen him be mean and neither has the shelter, he has been there since March 2011. (yes 3 months)

We think he was alone in the home  or else tormented somehow in the home. NFCs are very friendly and outgoing and need companionship, so we think he may have been too bored or starved for attention. (however we cannot verify this because we don't know the previous owners). 

We pulled him 6/27 becuase the shelter is out of room and they were going to have to start a big kill to keep up with the numbers of cats people were dropping off.

After looking at this guy, and reviewing websites, we have figured out he is a Norwegian Forest Cat with somewhere, possibly, some Persian thrown in (his face is too round for a NFC).  All his other attributes - size, disposition, alertness, ear shape and position, fur length, etc., point to him being a purebred NFC. (of course we have no papers)

His fur is long and will require occasional checks for mats. We found two and they pulled out nicely without even a comb.

LOOK at that tail!  That's the primary reason we are sure he's NFC. If you google NFCs you will see the same plumy tail, there is no tail like this in any other breed!!

He is ok being picked up. He did not hiss at the dog when we set his carrier on the floor and he is not aggressive at all with the dog or other cats. After just a few days he was ready to be out and about and was not afraid.

Chuckie has been here now for a couple of weeks and has settled in very nicely. He is correctly socialized - he takes the subordinate role with growly cats - he is the new guy so he has done the correct posturing during cat introduction.

So, again, we have not seen any meanness. We think he was being tormented by a young child who was unsupervised.

We now have better pictures!! Just look at that fur! I think in the Persian realm this color would be called Silver Marked.
