Description: This sweetheart was at the county shelter & was not adopted, so they were going to put him back on the street. This is the "RTF" or "return to field" program that our Brevard County shelter is doing 100% of the time if the cat is not adopted.
Most shelters only do this RARELY. Our shelter has chosen to do it 100% even if the cat is tame and adoptable.
He had been at the shelter since 4/2. His one-chance adoption lottery was 4/7. So they gave him 5 days to find a home....or be dumped back on the street....hmmm, a *true* no-kill shelter will hold on to the animal no matter what until it is adopted.
So... we went to get him! The county is allowing other cat shelters to go get these cats before they are put back on the street.
His paperwork from the shelter shows him at 5 yrs old. We KNOW this is not possible because unfixed male cats roaming outside like he was, at 5 yrs, would have done some tomcatting and would have the big cheeks ("jowls") starting about age 3 yrs.
He was neutered on 4/7/17 and we picked him up on 4/8/17. If he had tomcat jowls it would take 3 weeks for them to retract after a neuter.
So, we are setting his age to a more appropriate one of 1-2 yrs.
