Description: DOB appx March 2004, DSH brown mackeral tabby tuxedo. This is a HUGE cat...he already weighs over 13 pounds when he was not quite a year old! This cat has a bit of history. He was brought to our shelter because he was attacking the owners and the children were scared of him. We thought it was because he was young and alone and bored. However after a couple of days we realized he was in pain. He was so tough to handle we couldn't reach past him to get his litterpan out of the cage to clean it!! 44 days went by....and we also noticed he was eating as if starved, and we figured the food he had been eating was not nutritious enough (we don't know what kind it was, it wasn't in the original package and we have never seen this kind of semi-moist kibble before). We offered him Nutro kibble, and he preferred to eat that!! Anyway the vet gave us some anasthesia, so on day 6, we knocked him under in his cage, and put him in a carrier to take him back to the vet for an exam (this is all due to his attitude and somewhat obvious pain). The vet saw that he seemed to have been straining rectally. Upon returning home, we finally got that litterpan out of the cage and what did we find??? Yep! We DID find something....he had passed a balloon! Ouch! We took him in again for x-rays to make sure there was nothing else in his intestine, and he was clear! So obvious his eating so much was to get enough fiber to get good results in the litterpan, he has stopped eating so voraciously now. He also can be handled easily! We are very glad he passed the balloon, and the story has a happy ending! Now we just need to find his forever home! As is the case with so many cats in the south, Tiger has tested positive for Bartonella (spread by fleas) and we have completed his treatment. Cats who have already had Bartonella cannot get it again, which is a plus! Bartonella treatments cost close to $100 per cat... Donations are welcome! Tiger says "Thank you!"
