Description:
This very sweet cat was found on the street in Merritt Island, dehydrated and starved. Everyone in the neighborhood was checked with, but no one claimed the cat.

Her microchip was never registered so that was a dead end too!

Persians are typically small in stature - they just look bigger due to all the fur. Kismet weighed in at 5.5 pounds when she was found. She then gained almost a pound in 3 weeks after her rescue!

When she was found her fur was shaved in a very choppy manner - obviously someone did a home shave on her. She had a few mats, and we are working on those slowly and trying not to yank too hard.

Kismet is extremely playful and sweet! See her video....

One of her pictures was made when we first found her, she looks so much better now. She is so playful now that she has energy and good food, it is very hard to get a clear picture!

At the vet's advice, we ran a full senior bloodwork panel (CBC / T4 / UA). So we have no exact age for her - the vet confirmed she is a senior based on the fact that her kidney values are a little wonky but she is not in kidney failure.

The vet did say that Kismet has cataracts. They are fully formed so this puts her age at 9 or above. Her teeth did not require an immediate dental - however she did have one tooth which required extraction so while they did that, she got a routine cleaning also.

Kismet now has her rabies vaccine (they didn't want to vaccinate her when she was so thin and hungry).

UPDATE: Kismet did find a home, however the existing cat would not accept her. We are now looking for a new home for Kismet. She has filled out and we will post new pictures ASAP!!

Potential adopters please note Persians require daily deep combing to keep the tangles from becoming mats, which are very painful.  If mats are left unattended, the skin beneath can die from lack of circulation. Persians also very often require grooming 2-3 times a year, which is an additional expense.  Daily combing is required over all the body and especially the armpits and between the legs, anywhere there is friction with long fur there will be mats starting quickly. It is best if you have no idea how to comb out a cat like this, that you ask your groomer to show you. This is how I learned!
